About the Role

In addition to hands-on repair work, you will also take part in monitoring and controlling systems such as medical gases, and ensuring safe handling of chemical substances within the facility.
A significant part of the role involves working closely with internal stakeholders such as nursing staff, doctors, and patients, as well as managing external contractors to ensure work is completed to the required standards. Being proactive in identifying risks and escalating them appropriately is essential to maintain a safe and compliant working environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Respond promptly to daily job cards and emergency maintenance calls.
• Carry out planned preventive maintenance to ensure all systems and equipment function safely and efficiently.
• Perform troubleshooting and repairs on electrical systems, plumbing networks, refrigeration units, air conditioning, and general facility infrastructure.
• Assist with installations of electrical, plumbing, and air-conditioning systems.
• Oversee the management and safe handling of the facility’s medical gas systems and chemical substances.
• Initiate and complete job cards for maintenance and emergency work, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
• Be available for after-hours emergencies and take part in standby duties when required.
• Manage external contractors effectively, providing clear instructions and oversight.
• Proactively identify maintenance risks and escalate them to technical specialists for intervention.
• Comply with company policies, procedures, and Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements.
• Foster positive working relationships with all stakeholders, ensuring their expectations are met.
Qualifications and Experience

• Grade 12 (Matric) along with an N3 Engineering qualification.
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a maintenance role within a hospital or healthcare environment.
• Solid knowledge of HVAC systems, mechanical systems, electrical networks, plumbing, nurse call systems, medical gases, and fire systems.
• Understanding of local building regulations is advantageous.
• Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act is essential.
