About the Role


The position of Receptionist is essential to the effective functioning of the IEC’s Northern Cape office. As the face of the institution, you will be the first point of contact for visitors, stakeholders, and internal staff. You’ll help ensure that every individual who interacts with the IEC experiences a high level of professionalism, courtesy, and service excellence.


This role is not just about answering phones and managing the front desk — it’s about contributing to the smooth operation of one of South Africa’s most critical democratic institutions. From assisting walk-ins to handling sensitive calls, you’ll play a valuable part in fostering trust and transparency with the public.


Key Responsibilities


• Welcome and direct visitors in a professional and courteous manner

• Operate the main switchboard: answer calls, respond to inquiries, and transfer calls to the correct departments

• Provide accurate and timely information to stakeholders, citizens, and the general public

• Maintain a tidy and organized reception area, reflecting the professionalism of the IEC

• Support internal departments with general administrative duties as required

• Handle incoming and outgoing mail, packages, and couriers

• Enforce visitor check-in protocols and basic security procedures

• Coordinate appointment schedules and assist with meeting room logistics

Required Qualifications and Skills:

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

• High level of professionalism and discretion

Preferred Experience and Attributes:
• Post-secondary qualification in Office Administration, Customer Service, or related field

• Experience in a government, electoral, or public service environment

• Familiarity with the mandate and operations of the Electoral Commission

• Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure
