The City of Cape Town invites you to apply for the Metro Police and Traffic Learnership Programme for 2025/2026. This 18-month programme offers hands-on training in law enforcement, equipping you with the skills and experience to pursue a career in public safety.(Graduates 24)

• Position: Metro Police and Traffic Learnership

• Duration: 18 months (1 June 2025 – 30 November 2026)

• Stipend: R34.91 per hour

Eligibility Criteria

City of Cape Town Metro Police & Traffic Learnership 2025/2026


To be considered, applicants must:
• Hold a Grade 12 certificate (proof required)

• Be a permanent resident within Cape Town (proof required)

• Be proficient in English and at least one other official language

• Be currently unemployed (students and EPWP staff are eligible)

• Be between 18 and 35 years old

• Be medically and physically fit for strenuous training

• Have no criminal record

• Possess a valid Code B (manual transmission) driving licence

• Have no visible tattoos when wearing the service uniform(Careers Portal)

Fitness Assessments

City of Cape Town Metro Police & Traffic Learnership 2025/2026


Shortlisted candidates will undergo mandatory fitness tests, including:
• 2.4 km run (Males: 11 minutes; Females: 13 minutes)

• 30 push-ups in 60 seconds

• 30 sit-ups in 60 seconds

• Dead load carry over 100m (2 x 25kg weights)

• Tyre drag over 20m

• 20m shuttle runs (10 in 60 seconds)

• 2.1m wall climb

• Motorcycle reach test

• Unassisted comfort swim(Western Cape Government)

Note: Pregnant individuals will not be permitted to participate in physical assessments.


Additional Requirements


Candidates must also:
• Pass a written assessment and interview

• Undergo a City medical evaluation

• Submit fingerprints and ID for criminal record checks

• Pass a driver assessment

• Undergo a compulsory drug test at a City testing venue

• Adhere to the Public Safety Training College’s code of conduct(Careers Portal, careers.capetown.gov.za)

Training Programme


Successful applicants will complete:
• Further Education and Training Certificate: Road Traffic Law Enforcement

• Law Enforcement Skills Programme SP4/2012(careers.capetown.gov.za, Careers Portal)

Note: Completion of the programme does not guarantee permanent employment with the City.


Special Conditions


• Candidates must be prepared to wear a uniform, work shifts, and operate in all weather conditions.

• Willingness to be assigned anywhere within Cape Town’s boundaries is required.

• Maintaining physical fitness and undergoing regular medical and psychological assessments is mandatory.

• Engaging in private work or business without prior written consent from the City is prohibited.
