Anglo American is offering a fantastic opportunity for a General Accountant to join its team. This role is crucial in managing financial records with precision, conducting internal audits, overseeing risk management, ensuring regulatory compliance, and delivering valuable financial insights. The right candidate will play a key role in strengthening the company’s financial health and supporting data-driven decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
Health, Safety & Environment Compliance:
• Adhere to all safety protocols and health regulations.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
• Engage in workplace safety initiatives, including Visible Felt Leadership (VFLs).
• Participate in Safety, Leadership, and Management (SLAMs) and risk assessments.
Financial Performance & Reporting:
• Maintain accurate financial records and ledgers.
• Prepare comprehensive financial statements and reports.
• Reconcile accounts and transactions to ensure financial accuracy.
• Review financial documents to identify errors and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Analyze financial data to detect trends and highlight areas for improvement.
• Monitor transactions, expenditures, and budget adherence.
Audit & Compliance Management:
• Assist in completing the Annual Insurance Questionnaire Report (K1002).
• Support internal audits by collaborating with Anglo Business Assurance Services (ABAS).
• Coordinate with key stakeholders for the Annual Assurance Plan review.
• Help users resolve SAP Release Strategy (DAF) inquiries.
• Manage audit coordination, including obtaining the Audit Program Memorandum (APM) and setting up meetings.
• Track audit observations and ensure timely resolution.
• Secure senior management sign-off on final audit reports.
• Organize risk register update sessions with department heads.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management:
• Assist in reviewing and updating the Legal Appointment Standard.
• Support the preparation and submission of regulatory reports, including Legal Appointment and Permit registers.
Qualifications & Requirements:
• Educational Background:
• National Diploma in Accounting/Commerce (NQF6) or
• Degree in Accounting/Commerce (NQF7)
• Experience:
• 3–5 years of hands-on experience in financial record-keeping, internal auditing, and risk management.
• Strong understanding of financial principles within the mining sector.
• Knowledge of risk management frameworks and compliance processes.
• Technical Skills:
• Advanced understanding of mining value chain financial drivers.
• Proficiency in risk management systems and compliance standards.
• Additional Requirements:
• A valid South African Driver’s License.
