Role Overview

As an ICCV, you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the rights and welfare of inmates. Your responsibilities will include:(247 Careers)
• Daily Engagement: Visiting assigned correctional centres to interact with inmates and Department of Correctional Services (DCS) officials, addressing complaints and concerns.(All Provinces Jobs)

• Monitoring Conditions: Assessing the living conditions within the facilities and reporting on findings to ensure humane treatment and compliance with regulations.

• Incident Reporting: Documenting and reporting instances of deaths, segregation, use of mechanical restraints, and use of force.(MyJobMag)

• Support During Inspections: Assisting JICS officials during inspections and investigations to uphold transparency and accountability.

Qualifications and Skills

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Educational Requirement: Possession of a Grade 12/Senior Certificate.

• Computer Literacy: Proficiency in computer use and accuracy in data handling.

• Community Endorsement: A recommendation or nomination as an ICCV by a community organization, dated within the last six months.

• Teamwork and Independence: Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.

• Public Service Orientation: A public-spirited attitude with a sound understanding of the Batho Pele principles.

• Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities.

• Resilience: Assertiveness and the capacity to work under pressure.

• Driver’s License: Possession of a valid driver’s license is advantageous.(DPSA)

Preference will be given to applicants residing in communities near the correctional centres where the positions are available.

Remuneration

• Salary: R85,620 per annum (3/8th, Level 05).

• Additional Benefits: An additional 37% in lieu of benefits.

• It is the applicant’s responsibility to have foreign qualifications evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and to provide proof of such evaluation.
