The South African Navy (SAN) is inviting applications for its 2026 Military Skills Development System (MSDS) Training Programme. This initiative provides young South Africans with a chance to serve their country in uniform under a two-year contract.
During the first year, recruits will undergo comprehensive military training along with specialized functional training. The second year will involve deployment to various units where participants will gain hands-on experience, apply their acquired skills, and further develop their capabilities.
Eligibility Criteria
Learnership
To qualify, applicants must meet the following requirements:
โข South African citizenship (no dual nationality).
โข Age requirement:
โข 18 to 22 years old with a completed Grade 12 qualification.
โข 18 to 26 years old if in possession of a Tertiary Qualification (minimum 3-year qualification) or N6 certificate.
โข Minimum APS Score: 18 (excluding Life Orientation).
โข No criminal record or pending legal cases.
โข Medically fit according to military standards.
โข No visible tattoos on the face, neck, lower arms, or legs.

โข Matric certificate (2024 statement of results will be accepted)
โข Tertiary qualifications (if applicable)

โข Proof of residence or a letter from a Village Chief
