Job Purpose

As a Port Worker at Transnet, you will play a vital role in cargo handling and site maintenance. Your responsibilities will contribute to smooth terminal operations and workplace safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Clean operational equipment, including crane windows and cabins.
• Inspect containers for damages or irregularities.
• Perform reefer (refrigerated container) monitoring operations.
• Open and close twist-locks on rail wagons.
• Load, offload, and secure cargo following standard operating procedures.
• Handle hooking and unhooking tasks as required.
• Conduct tarping and untarping duties, if applicable.
• Position and remove dunnage to ensure cargo stability.
• Maintain cleanliness in operational areas, including rail trucks, plants, workshops, offices, storage sheds, and restroom facilities.
• Complete necessary documentation, including accident reports.
• Identify and use the correct cargo handling equipment.

Required Qualifications & Experience

To qualify for this role, you must meet one of the following criteria:

Option 1:
• Grade 12 / NQF Level 4
• At least 1 year of experience in terminal operations
Option 2:
• Grade 10 / NQF Level 2
• At least 2 years of terminal operations experience

Key Competencies & Skills

Knowledge:
• Understanding of terminal layout
• Safety procedures
• Stack positioning
Skills:
• Attention to detail
• Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards
